Lost Key

Hi All,

My dear wife dropped one of my key fobs down a drain hole yesterday so I now only have 1 key.

I rang my local dealer and they are quoting me £268.27 for a new fob and programming.

Does anyone know of a cheaper solution to get a replacement other than through a main dealer.

Many Thanks

Chris

Buy a central locking system with flip keys like this

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/remote-control-car-central-locking-BIGHAWKS_1214382235.html

two blank transponder chips

http://www.weiku.com/products/8443032/transponder_chip_transponder_car_key_transponder_car_key_chip_chip_Wholesale.html

and two blank key blades, look for somebody able to clone your existing transponder, than find a locksmith that cuts your blades, and an electrician that installs new central locking system in your car; finally assemble new key fobs with blades and transponder chips and you have now two brand new flip keys.

I made two fully functional keys like this

that control a reliable alarm system at a cost of ... 30 pounds.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, I think I may have left a vital piece of information off of my original post.

I still have one fully working keyless fob that has a label with the name TOKAI RIKA B51EA on it followed by 3 lines of further text, what I need is a replacement so I will have a spare for the fob that my wife lost.

As I said earlier Stephen Eagle Toyota quoted me an outrageous price of £268.27 and I'm hoping someone within the owners club can suggest a cheaper alternative.

Sorry for any confusion. Chris

Unfortunately your car being a T-Spirit come with the key less entry system this makes the key more expensive then normal models

you need two parts:

Fob - 89904-0D070

Key blade - 69515-52110-84 ( comes cut to car )

Try and PM Partsking to see what prices he can quote for the parts then you will need to arrange programming into the key less & immobiliser systems using Toyota's diagnostic equipment at a local dealer incurring further cost. The price quoted is appears to correct.

Have you checked that you are not covered for lost keys by any insurance policies you may have. For example . Your car insurance policy. Your house policy- perhaps under the 'All risks! Section for items covered outside the home.

I know accidents can happen, but I am weary of drains. A few weeks ago a very stressed decorator knocked at my door after dropping his keys down the drain. Luckily the keys did not sink. I managed to use a wire coat hanger to hook the key ring and retrieve the keys.

I advised him move his van away from that spot which he did sharpish.

There needs to be a catch grid below the drain grate.

Hi, interesting that you have this issue as I have also been down this route with my Auris Hybrid which uses a slightly different TOKAI RIKA key part. My experience in attempting to obtain a cheaper alternative so far is: Buying used key from eBay and asking the dealers to programme had no success. I suspect they did not do it correctly as the bought key had an identical part number. I asked some lovely mobile locksmith ladies who proceeded to cut a new key then abandoned the task when they appreciated the complex proximity system and left me with a cut blade only. Useless by itself as if you lock the car with a remote and do an opening with a blade it will set the alarm off! The new price quote I had from a dealer was slightly more, somewhere around 280UKP. Partsking could not significantly undercut that as the trade price is not much different.

I have access to the diagnostics and can see the process to introduce 'new' keys into the EMS but a used key requires that you remove all keys from the EMS then reintroduce them. Not a task I could risk as you could end up with no working keys.

Any ideas as to how an aftermarket set could be used would be most welcome. Also the range of models from an international perspective (such as the Aus and US equivalents) might help us find a way round this but it is risky having only one key as the car would need to be towed to a dealer and new keys programmed which would cost quite a lot I would imagine.
