Noisy Ventilation Fan

My IQ is about 2 years old. The air-con/ventilation fan has suddenly become noisy as if the blades are hitting something. I have tried running the fan fast to see if this dislodges something - but it makes no difference

How difficult is it to get to the fan? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks

TD

If you stick your head in the passengers footwell and look towards the drivers side you will see a small, narrow, removable black plastic cover in front of the trim panels. Behind this cover is the pollen filter which is likely to be filthy if you haven't changed it already. Take the filter out and I think the fan is just behind that. It's possible that the filter has been dislodged and touching the fan or something has got through the filter.

If you can't see the fan though and running it without the filter makes no difference it's a major job as the fan and heater assembly is very well hidden behind the dashboard.

Craig.

Hi Boyd

You may have to move the edge of the carpet a little. Essentially, it is behind the centre unit up against the bulk head. Be prepared for a lot of debris to come out with it. Its about. 10 inches square and half inch thick

Since the provision of cabn air filters has become routine, the probability of stuff getting through to the squirrel cage fan in a car has become almost nil.

Hi,

My IQ is now 4 years old (2010) 1.0 EU model.

I have been having this strange rattling noise (see video behind the link), but only when driving. The noise occurs only when driving (in the video it was 80-90km/h smooth road). As you can also see, the air fan is shut off. Previously the noise occured only sometimes, now it's more frequent. The air filters had been changed 4 months ago. If you have any idea what might be causing this, please help.

It is hard to tell on a video, but to me it sounds like a relay clicking on and off.
