2004 1.6Vvti Interesting Throttle Problem

Hi Guys

Am at a bit of a loss to this one, driving home, engine management light came on, felt like I lost all power

pulled over and realised the throttle pedal wasn't doing anything unless it was about 70% depressed, then the engine would rev as expected if you put your foot that far down, from about 70-100% down the pedal works as normal, albeit wanting to rev rather highly!

makes pulling away from a junction like a drag strip start, press the pedal until it kicks in, revs shoot up to about 4k then try to pull away!

listening in the engine bay, engine runs as normal, slowly press the pedal, and just before it "engages" and the revs shoot up it sounds like there's a hiss of air escaping, then it kicks in

have left the Battery off for a few hours to clear the error, but fault is still there

typically had to happen on a bank holiday weekend!

any thoughts?!

thanks

Chris

Hi,

Think you would be better getting the error codes read out rather than trying to delete them, it might give you more direction as to where the problem is.

Many garages will read out the codes for a small fee.

As for where to start with the problem, believe your model is an electronic accel pedal rather than the old thottle cable ?

Could be a fault with the pedal sensor, leaking/split vacuum cables, fuel delivery problems or faulty sensors on the engine, a lot to go at !!

As its a 'hard' fault , might be worth a session on a Toyota diagnostic machine, but not cheap.
