Heat Guard

There is a heat guard just above the silencer on my 2006 Yaris. The flimsy guard has broken around two of the securing nuts causing it to rattle - its not much thicker than paper!. I was hoping to replace it but the nuts are rusted frozen solid and the two nuts behind the silencer are very difficult to get to.

Would it be wise to remove it? It clearly has a purpose to avoid heat transfer but is it essential?

Any tips for getting the nuts off? Have tried WD40.

Suppose if it wasn't needed, it wouldn't be there, and it has lasted around 8 years.

Try Plus Gas releasing fluid - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/car-maintenance-accessories/maintenance-fluids-and-greases/penetrating-fluids/?549774741&0&

Yes. WD-40 is not much good as a penetrating fluid - despite the miraculous 'does everything' reputation it has gained.

I haven't had any success to release the nuts. Think I will wrap the guard around the silencer and secure with a large jubilee clip.
