I suppose the basic premise of supply and demand is partly to blame - there are a lot fewer IQ's on the market than Yaris. Aside from that of the two sets I've seen at £149 and £125, the one pair have received no bids. So are they going to get the prices they want??

Why not send Parts King a personal message, detailing your car and what you want, to see how much new ones are? For Parts King, go to the Community page, scroll down to Sponsor's Corner and Lindop Toyota.

Unfortunately scrap car dealers often ask stupid prices for bits that will end up in the skip one day.

I contacted one as I was after the curved, black plastic trim panel under the heater controls and I could see it in his photo of the car he was breaking. It's a clip on panel too so 2 minutes to remove it.

He came back with £50 plus VAT plus postage! I told him a new one from the spares department at the local dealer was only £40 and I'd give him £20 tops, he never got back to me strangely....

Out of interest, where did you buy your car? If it came from a dealer then speak to them. The headrests are part of the safety equipment and should be supplied otherwise you can't use the rear seats. If it was a private sale try to contact the seller again and see if they have them in the garage and just forgot about them.

There is a storage compartment under the rear seat which is a popular place to keep the headrests when not in use, I assume they aren't there already?

On that note, Craig - do you think the rear headrests have been specifically designed to remain in an upright position? Many cars have ones which can be pushed into the seats, making it possible to fold the seats down without having to fully remove the headrests. It's an annoying fault of the iQ, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had safety in mind.

Hi Chris

I think they are designed to stay upright as you suggest.

Reason I think that is, the iQ has a rear curtain airbag which very few cars have. In the event of a rear shunt with passengers in the rear seats an airbag deploys from the roof behind the seats. I think the headrests are fixed to prevent them being forced forward by the force of the airbag going off and then injuring the occupants.

Attached is a picture of the airbag and you can see that without the headrests fitted it really wouldn't work. I think there is a warning somewhere in the manual that headrests must be fitted when carrying rear seat passengers.

It is a bit annoying having to take them out though. When I bought my car the dealer had already placed them under the seat in the stowage area but I took them out and fitted them as I thought they looked nicer fitted. I soon discovered that rear vision was seriously affected so took them back off and stored them again under the seat where they have remained to this day.

Craig.

Erm. 3 people i know said they bought their car with no rear head rests. If you haven't already may i suggest you have a look in the tray under the rear seats as thats where dealers often put them. Just pull the elasticated strap at the front of the rear seats and lift

nope there not under that flap in boot and taken the tray out. it didn't even have a tin foam for a puncture. it does now!

also asked a few scrap dealers on eBay no joy oh well I'll keep looking.

Like Katy says

Are you looking in the tray under the rear seats. Not the moulded foam one accessed from the rear boot but the tray you access from just behind the front seats after lifting the rear seat

Probably removed by the previous owner as people think they obscure the rear view and remove them. Probably removed and left in the garage and forgotton about when the car was traded in rather than sold to make money

The previous owners address is on the V5c. Might be a bit cheeky to contact them but could be worth a go?

  • 2 weeks later...

Mine haven't been in since day one, as my back seats have been folded down for most of the iQ's life to use it as a boot.

Initially I stored them under the seat, then I noticed they were getting crushed, so they have been in the garage ever since. They're going back in this week though.
