Hi Mike, welcome.

Looking on this forum, this seems to be a common issue whereby they seize up inside.

Apparently it not working doesn't really cause any performance issues, it just keeps throwing up the check engine light which can be reset, but I guess would get annoying.

Take a look at this thread where somebody repaired theirs for less than a fiver by replacing the internal bearing:

Might be an easy fix if you are, or know someone who is handy.

Was wondering about blanking it off or just leaving it as it does very little but it turns off vehicle stability control and traction control and reset only lasts 2 or 3 days plus if light keeps turning on wouldnt know when theres a problem i found a used one for 230 posted it had 3 months waranty but i feel weary of using such a expensive second hand part that is prone to breaking p.s nice car

yes, you could blank off/bypass but you would also need to delete the relevant software for it from the ecu to stop it throwing the check engine light, and I guess that it's not easy to do.

If it were me, I would be taking it apart and seeing what's what. Nothing to lose as it's not working anyway I suppose. You make your own mind up though - it's just I hate this throwaway society and have no fear of taking things apart and repairing where possible.

It could be the bearing seized, or the motor brushes could be worn out. Both very cheap compared to the price of the whole unit.

However, it is likely to be fairly fiddly to do.

There's a diy for an audi pump here which will though different, should give a general overview of disassembly:

Thanks for the compliment - I will have to keep an eye out for you - as we are both appear to be from Swansea.

i,d love to have a crack at stripping it down and fixing i trained as a mechanical fitter but the reality of it is with kids and work just dont have the time to do it , so looking at options i found a recycled one for £108 posted instead of £800 new , so am getting a local garage to confirm that it is the offending part, buy it for £108 pay them to fit it and if it goes again ill change it myself i could buy 7 or 8 for the same price as new one so seems pointless buying new . I will keep my eyes peeled for your car i shouldnt miss it its mint
