Assuming you get it on the runners there is a bit of work sorting out the airbag connections and seat sensor and belt clip switch. The airbag connectors have a self shorting arrangement to stop false triggering when they are disconnected

Seat air bags are no problem and neither would be the seat belt buckles, its the seat track width and length, i would really consider fitting yaris t sport seats out of a 3 door as the look and support alot better.

Self shorting arrangment in the airbag connector ? Really? I dont think so ! They have a secondary safety lock to prevent them from accidentally being disconnected, the Battery should be disconnected when removing them to prevent any codes being generated, and if a seat damaged wire harness is fitted to prevent it going off whilst your face is close to it !

When you unplug the airbag there is a physical shorting link that comes into play across the airbag terminals

Ref taken from fault diagnostics in the workshop manual

I understand what you are saying but when you separate the connector, it releases a shorting link across the bag connector

No offence but whos told you that it was for safety? . Im not being awkward but there isn't a short pin for safety. Ive worked on that system for some many years on quiet a few different toyota, professionally and the connector is just a double locking system to prevent accidental being disconnected, as if that was the case the drivers air bag, side curtain, and seat belt retractor would be the same, and they aren't. Im only telling you this in case you disconnect this thinking that the "short pin" you've been told / heard about makes they system safe, and would hate to see any one to get hurt. Always disconnect and Battery when unplugging and reconnecting any air bag system, this way if they do go off you are at the front of the car away from them.

The "short pin" you've seen read about is just there to close the system when the seat is disconnected , so the air bag diagnosed know that there is fault as it now has a reading from a closed and not a open system, this way if Battery was reconnected and the seat was unplugged a warning ⚠ symbol will show to tell you there is a fault with the seat.

Sorry Al when you first enquired about anyone replacing the seats in the iQ i wasn't aware of your background. I only mentioned the cables as a reminder that they had to be taken into consideration. I wasn't implying any safety issues involved, simply that they were to be considered when contemplating seat replacement

Ok re-read my post. I guess its the ref to "false triggering" that may have prompted your response. Many thanks for the overview of the system
