Auris D4D Engine Failures?

With all of the recent reports of the 2006-09 Auris D4D engines failing due to head gasket problems, does anyone still have their original engine fitted? and if so what mileage is recorded on you Auris? Or if your original engine had to be replaced, what mileage did the engine fail on?

It would be interesting to find the highest mileage Auris running with it's original engine.

2008 SR - Original 2.0 D4D with 70k - no apparent issues just now. Had leaky radiator replaced.

Think the 2.2s are more prone to it, but the 2.0 not immune.

The best guesstimates (Toyota aren't going to give you their stats) suggest that under 5% of these engines (fitted to Auris, Avensis & RAV4) develop this problem. They do seem to have vastly improved (or possibly eradicated) this fail rate since Spring 2009.

& of course a good chunk of those will be/have been eligible for a free replacement under the extended goodwill.

I wonder if the Auris might suffer more pro rata (if it does) because it possibly tends to be more of an about town/shopping car subject to shorter trips?

04/2007 Auris 2.2 with 200.000 km´s (125.000 miles) still running and okay. Only an alternator fault so far.

I hope you are right Pieparker and it does make sense that just problems are brought up on forums.

For the record my 2007 Auris is on the original engine at 35K miles, it's had a replacement EGR and manifold at 31K miles and recently a new water pump was fitted due to a small leak.

What exactly is the design flaw with these engines? Reports of carbon build up in the engine? but I cannot see why this will cause the HG failures?
