Celica 1999 - 2006 Optimal Wheel Size

I have a 2002 gen 7 celica. I am going to purchase some alloys but was wondering what the optimal size is?

Previous owner installed some 17" wider than usual, not sure if it is my tyres but I find that there is a lack of grip in wet conditions.

Should I revert back to factory size? What is the usual width for 17" factory fitted wheels.

The Gen 7 will handle and perform best with 16" wheels.

The 17" wheels were 7" wide, with an Offset/ET of 38, and fitted with 205/45/17 tyres.

If you go aftermarket don't go more than 17" x 7.5" wide, there have been a few people who have had 8" wide wheels and not liked how the car handles or even drives for that matter.

18" wheels will be worse

Thanks for your updates, I have just brought some toyota 17" x 7" toyota wheels. Turns out that the previous owner had no only fitted aftermarket wheels but had different sized tyres on the rear!?
