15" Wheels On 2.0 D4D

Hello,

I'm not able to find any information about wheel sizes compatible with the 2.0 D4D engine. My idea is to use 15" wheels with winter tires. As far as I know 16" or bigger wheels are compatible because the 2.0 engine has bigger brakes compared to the 1.4 D4D and the petrol engines. Does anyone use 15" wheels on his Auris with such engine.

Regards,

George

As far as I'm aware the T2 Auris used 15 inch wheels

be very sure before you do anything. e.g. Toyota sell 16" Winter wheels for the Avensis but my 2.2 cannot run these as it's front discs are too large.

You should be able to find the dimensions of the brake discs easily enough but internal dimensions for wheels may be harder.

Also Toyota customer service should be able to help.

Oh, & see what your insurer says about it first, too.

The diameter of the front disk is 295mm, for a 1,4 d4d is 275mm. It's close, but when you add the other components who knows.Go to a wheel shop and test it. If it fits, it fits. The outer diameter of the wheel is easy 195/65/R15 I presume. The only problem are the brakes, so you can go and test.

so do the 2.2 run 295mm discs as well as am looking at some winter rims myself ... But could get more difficult if now I find out a 15 won't clear the brakes and 16s will be tight

yes, the Auris 2.2 front discs are also 295mm.

Brilliant well that s the 15 inch rims for winter out the window

I think that you should be able to run 16"s - but it may depend on wheel design so best to check for the particular wheel that you had in mind.

Just something to use for winter ... I run 18s now

some nice sets of 16" genuine Toyota rims on eBay e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/toyota-auris-breaking-16-alloys-wheel-/281467095188?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4188bf0894

You also need to speak to your insurer as running different size wheels will constitute a modification

I looked at my original 16" Toyota rims on the our 2.0 d4d Auris. And to tell you the truth I do not think that 15" will fit the front tyres. It is very tight as it is with the 16". 16" are not bad in the winter though. I have an Avensis 2.0 d4d and we have traveled on the same road with the same tyres and the Auris is a lot more stable. I believe that the shorter wheelbase and lighter body makes the difference.

You'll need a set of spigot rings to adapt the bore & possibly a new set of nuts & locking nuts (Toyota wheels have a flat seat, most aftermarket are tapered - don't know about Mitsubishi).

That & keeping things easy for insurance are why I picked up another set of Avensis wheels for my Winter ones rather than going aftermarket or another manufacturer's oem.

(did have them refinished in gun metal though :) )

Yh I got 5 wheels for 65 quid but they are flat seats for the nuts they are only original wheels ... Nothing special

I mean in the sense as my nuts fit and that just the centre bore different...

So with the Auris being lugs and nuts locating rings shouldn't be an issue

So I got round to trial fitting the 16 inch alloys .... And took some pics to show how close the brakes are to the wheel .... I also did a video but can't find a way to upload it .... Either way it's horrendously close but still clears

look a bargain for £13 each (although I prefer your TTEs ;) )

I prefer them but the cost to replace them for is a lot more than a used set and these shopping trolley castors are for winter only
