Slightly Different Size Tyres On Front, Rear And Spare? Are These The

I've just bought a Toyota Celica T-Sport (190), here are some pictures...

My other car (Skoda Octavia) has the same size and specification for all 4 tyres, but looking at the tyres on this car, they are different on the front, rear and spare.

Front: 205/40 Z R17 84W XLRear: 205/45 R17 84WSpare: 205/45 Z R17 88W XL

I think the fronts are due for replacement soon, my only concern is the current tyres are the wrong size? Should they be 205/45, or is 205/40 correct?

Sorry for the newbie question, just wanted to make sure if I am going to get some decent tyres that I ask for the right ones and don't just blindly replace what is currently on there.

Thanks,

Luke

I checked Black Circles, and Kwik Fit, with my registration; but they were both clearly wrong as they both listed 15 inch wheels.

I've just checked the manual, and notice a sticker has been put onto the page for Tire specifications.

The sticker lists this specification:

205/45 ZR17 88W

So am I right in thinking my current front tyres are the wrong size?

you can also check the plate/sticker on the driver's B pillar.

Thanks, sticker also just lists the same size.

205/45 ZR17 88W

Not sure why it has the wrong tyres on the front, but they need replacing anyway, so will replace with 205/45.

I believe the correct tyres for the stock 17" wheels are 205/45......just buy quality tyres.!..and the the car will reward you.!

If I remember correctly you could go for 215/40/17's as they are a more available tyre and therefore cheaper. I run them on mine instead of 205's.

You need to move the tyres currently on the rear to the front, and fit a pair of 205/45/17's on the rear.

I'm unsure as to the insurance implications of running a tyre with a lower load rating than the OE 88, so it would be worth asking if running 84 rating is OK with your insurer. It would be appreciated if you could let us know their reply :)

I may just replace all 4 tyres then.

Getting some nasty vibrations through the steering wheel when doing more than 60mph.

I'm hoping some new tyres, rebalance and realignment will solve it.

Ive never had a sporty car with low/stiff suspension, but the more I drive it the more I feel that something is wrong.

I've searched for steering wheel vibrations at speed and it appears to be a common question on many forums with no clear resolution.

Pretty convinced the previous owner drove it like he stole it because the alloy wheels have plenty of scuffs and dings.

Hope I haven't bought a knackered one, tempted to find an independent Toyota mechanic to give it the once over.

I overtook a car on a 60mph road today, he was only doing 40, so I dropped into 2nd and floored it, quickly changing up because I should have been in 3rd because the revs were higher than I expected. Anyway, that caused the check engine, VSC, and TRC OFF warning lights to come on.

The car drove fine, and when I got to my destination I disconnected the negative terminal on the Battery to clear them. I drove home (35 miles) and the warning lights haven't come on again, so hoping I just upset a sensor when I floored it in 2nd.

Got 4 new tyres fitted for £350 by my local independent tyre place, Toyo Proxes T1-R 205/45 R17 88W

Vibrations through the steering wheel have stopped, feels so much better to drive, completely transformed the car.

The CEL, VSC and TRC OFF lights came on again today at around 7000 rpm. Engine was warm when I floored it (did not redline it), so need to get an ODB2 code reader to figure out the problem. Praying it isn't something expensive, though the RPM seems to indicate it may be something to do with "Lift"? Bugger.

Any recommendations for code readers? Seen some that are just blocks you click in then use bluetooth to connect to, others are things connected to a digital display readout, which are good?

Also worth noting, all 4 wheels were buckled, but the tyre fitters were able to balance them all.

Standard wheels are really soft, no matter which ones you have.

If you can afford to it's worth changing at some point to a decent set of aftermarket wheels.
