Diesel Slow To Pick Up Revs

Hello Forum.

This problem is linked to a Turbo change, but is slightly unusul to pinpoint . . .

My wife's 55 plate Toyota RAV4 Diesel. Bought about 5 years
ago, 30,000 miles, now 90,000 miles; recently, cam belt changed and new clutch
and Duel Mass Flywheel. Noteably, at 40,000, had the Turbo changed. In other
words, all the usual D4-D sillies !!!

However, immediately after the turbo was changed (some 4
years ago), we've been living with an annoying problem : When sitting stationary and idling, if you
bip the accelerator, the engine responds immediately and revs freely. No problem there then. Likewise, if you're
driving at over 40mph, and bip the accelerator, say between changing gears, it
again revs freely. Excellent.

But between say 2mph and 40mph, there's no lively response
at all from the engine when bipping the accelerator. This means you have real
flat spots and a lack of power when say approaching a junction in 3rd gear, and
then dropping it into 2rd gear to pull away. In fact, the engine revs only
really return because of the clutch being engaged and forcing the engine to
'wake up', so to speak.

I'd love to get to the bottom of this one!

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Alan.

Could be a fuelling issue - changed the filter lately? Or maybe your turbo isn't building up boost quickly enough. If you've been having this issue since the turbocharger was changed, I'd take a good long look at that first.

Thanks guys for the quick responses.

The symptoms coincide precisely with the change of the turbo (about 4 years ago), hence I hesitate on pointing a finger at the fuel filter. I'm fairly sure that the Toyota chaps got something a little bit wrong when fitting the new turbo.

The question is of course, what could it have been?

Could you explain the SCV Kit in a little bit more detail ; what is it, what are its fault symptoms, and what does it affect?

Again, many thanks.

Alan.

Go to YouTube and type in SCV Toyota. You can see whats what. I would also say fuel filter change/Air filter. Plus clean MAF. Plus run BG244 in a tank of Shell V-Power.
