Just a quick one

I want to buy an IQ

I really like automatics

Can anyone tell me when the MPG is like on the auto 1.0 and the auto 1.33 please ?

I have been searching the forum and there is no definitive answer that I can see, maybe someone can talk from experience

I've had my IQ2 (2011 1.0 Auto model) since August this year. I drive it mostly in 'D' and the onboard computer tells me I am getting around 45mpg. For my driving style (relatively aggressive, errr, 'swift') I get a range of about 250 miles.

So 250 miles to about 30l ?

Is this on a run or around town ?

That is about 38mpg. If that is round town then that is awesome, it it is on a run then it is not too good.

I have a Toyota Sera that around town will do about 25mpg.

On a run at about 80mph it stays at about 36-38, at 60mph I can make it touch 42mpg on LPG (52mpg on petrol). It is a 1991 car with almost no computer on it !!

We have an IQ 1.0 auto and it's not as economical as we'd have thought.

On a run driving normally and keeping up with traffic you can eke out about 50 mpg, though 40-45 if driving sloppily. In town, where it spends most of its time, it gets about 32-36 mpg depending. We don't bother with the 'eco' option which might help. Also if you feather the accelerator for about 3 seconds the car revs drop and economy shoots up, but that's almost impossible in UK town traffic.

We bought the car for ease of driving in town, the ability to park almost anywhere and the amazingly tight (got to see it to believe it) turning circle. Car tax is £20 a year if I recall.

It's not all about the mpg's with the IQ. It has many other merits that make it a great city car.

Check out Fuelly http://www.fuelly.com/ and search for iQ bt engine and transmission, that will give you real life figures. Mine is on there but is the 6 speed manual.

Just make sure they click the UK mpg as the US gallons are much smaller. 41 mpg US is 50 mpg UK. Makes a difference.

Also, I've looked on that site and the cvt IQ's are quite rare and it doesn't really help give a break down between town/city use and those who travel A roads. Our experience is that on a steady run the cvt is quite economical is you take it easy. Round town it is not so.

I concur with everything which has been said. After roughly 1500 miles of IQ2 CVT ownership, I love its ease of driving and parking in town but it's not as economical as I had hoped for. That said, on the run to work, which is only about 6 miles and all in town, it averages 39mpg. A longer run the other day on top of a couple of weeks commuting and shopping runs gave an easy 44.7 brim to brim. I don't think any other small automatics are going to do much better and, personally, I hate the robotised clutchless manuals which are so common these days in things like the Aygo - the IQ CVT is so much nicer to drive.

Cheap insurance and £20 road tax help keep running costs down.

My IQ year 2010 1.0ltr manual gets between 60mpg & 70MPG (70MPG + In Summer)

I drive carefully on A & B roads (not much motorway) and use Shell V power petrol and my IQ is well maintained

IE Regular fully synthetic oil changes and air filter changes tyre pressures slightly up on standard pressures ,,etc etc,,,

Changed my spark plugs before the recomended time was up.

BG44 fuel system cleaner put in every 6 months

I use 2off Scan Gauges and try to maximise my MPG

Only cover 5000 miles per year.

Driving a bit like miss Daisy 55-60mph single person auto 1.0 i can get 62mpg

When i had my 18x215x35. Only got 42mpg!!

Thanks for the input guys but the OP did say he was interested in the automatic version. The manual does get much better mpg's and despite the automatic apparently not being to far off the manual mpg's, in reality it is.

As others have said though, I HATE the new automated manuals. I'd never, ever buy one. The smoothness of an automatic compared to the jerking of these automated ones is just miles apart. Mrs Cabbie likes the look of the new Aygo but won't have one because there's no proper automatic option. That's the Europeanisation of the Toyota range. The !Removed! wouldn't accept an automated manual, nor would anyone else, so why inflict it on us?

An old thread but...

Check my tyre pressures yesterday - all about 4 psi low. So it will be interesting to see any different on my mpg.

I generally get 53-54mpg, in my 1.0lt 2014 manual.

For long motorway journeys I always pump up the types to around 10% above the recommended maximum. Makes a noticeable difference, at lest 10% mpg improvement. I will usually get bang on 60% on regular unleaded on my 1L manual and mid 60s on premium. I can squeeze it to 70 on premium if there's little wind and rain, and I drive at indicated 60-70, which is a test of patience on a long drive!

However, for around the town at home I drop them back to just shy of the door jab recommendations for comfort over the speed bumps and potholes.

Very firm types will reduce grip a bit, but iQs are not race cars and modern cars are extremely well balanced anyway, so I still find it well within safe and controllable on the motorway.

Interesting to read.

Most of the increasing MPG advice seems to be common sense, but tyre pressure gets a regular mention.

Type pressure makes the same difference on most cars. I've done this on loads of other cars, including I car I had until recently a BMW 760Li (the perfect anti-iQ, opposite in every respect) which did around 20 mpg on softs for long journeys and 22 mpg on firm.

Google maps still has them both - quite funny to compare an iQ to the opposite end of the car scale!
