Declare Alloys?

My 09 Auris is a T2 model with the 15" steel wheels however, it comes up as the TR model when you enter the reg into any vehicle database, including my insurance one. I am looking at putting on the 16" Auris Orion Alloy wheels onto it. Will I need to declare them to my insurance company? If they go by the TR spec, then 16" alloys come as standard, right?

I would tell them about any change. They may just tell you that they don't need to know about such changes but why take the risk. Don't give them any excuse to deny a claim. Get it on their records.

Declare them. Regardless of what it comes up as on any database, it should be insured as the grade it is - so if you have it insured as a TR phone your insurance and change it. Otherwise it could be misrepresentation.

Tell them EVERYTHING.

I tinted my windows and put mud flaps on my Auris and I told them.

In fact if you alter the car in ANY way from factory spec they should be told.

Absolutely. That would give them an excuse to void your insurance in the event of any claim if you don't..

I have been ringing around for insurance quotes.

Every company I called wanted to know if my car was modified,I declared tinted rear windows and mud guards.

ONE company refused to insure my car because of the tinted windows !!!!

It just shows how careful you must be when you make small alterations to the look of your car.

Some of the cheaper ones aren't geared up to handle *any* modifications at all. You can't afford to not tell them though...it's just not worth the risk.
