How Can I Test Or Check The Air-Recirculation?

I bought a brand new 2014 Corolla 4 months ago. I am at Canada and outside temperature is cold (-5C). Whenever I drive the car, windows are fogging up very quickly and heavily.

If I turn the fan to defrost to blow windshield, only windshield gets better, but side windows even get worse (more fogging). If I turn off air-recirculation and turn the fan to other positions, situation is not changed.

But I have Sienna and Camry, they have no this issue. Whenever I turn the fan to defrost to blow windshield, all windows get clear.

I went to dealership garage. The receptionist had a quick look by check the fan and vents. He said the fan and vents worked perfect. It is just because of the weather. They could not do anything. I was kicked out. I cannot blame him because they did not charge for the quick check.

Now I wonder the air-recirculation does not work properly. Even I turn off air-recirculation, air-recirculation may be still on. So humid is accumulated inside and causes fogging. The interesting point is the situation gets better if I leave the windows opened a little bit.

I may visit another dealership garage. But I worry I will get same words as the previous dealership garage. So I would like test or check the air-recirculation by myself first.

My question is: how can I test or check the air-recirculation is really off when I turn off air-recirculation? In other words, how can I verify fresh air is coming in from outside when I turn off air-recirculation?

Thanks

Hello Go - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Do you have climate control or manual air conditioning?

Usually using air recirculation for periods of time, rather than air recirculation for a short while and then outside air, will cause the windows to fog more.

Do you have the direction of the side and centre vents angled towards the side windows? Adjusting the side vents towards the side windows may help demist quicker.
