1990 Camry 2.0 Gli Advice Please Sunroof, Gear Selector Light Problem.

Hi

Hope someone can advise...

I've had this car a few months, and spent quite a bit of time and money trying to get it working 100%; had problems with the starter, the distributor, the alternator, the Battery... I hope most of that issue has been, one way or another, cured now. The car drives great, but it can be on the thirsty but I think that's more or less normal - 13-18mpg on local, shortish journeys.

Anyway, at present, having a bit of a crisis. The sunroof doesn't fully close and it never has, since i've had it. The motor seems to work but the glass panel itself doesn't move so much; it will with a bit of pulling and pushing but it never gets to the fully closed position which means i've now had to wedge some bits of wood in the gap, to try to push the glass so it's trim with the roof, so that water doesn't continue to drop inside. The rooflining is soaked at the moment. My guess is that perhaps the runners or the wheels/bearings that sit in there (if that's how it works) are either damaged or misaligned or something. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this on this or other similar Toyotas of the same era and if it's an easy/manageable fix. Also, I've been hunting around breaker's yards for a complete drive/assembly - but I've not had any luck finding anything for this car. I was wondering whether camrys used the same sunroof mechanicals as carinas, corollas from the same period.

Another, but this time relatively minor issue, is that the gear selector indicator on the dash seems to be a bit temperamental - sometimes D doesn't light up, sometimes only R does, etc - sometimes each gear selection is indicated fine, others times none at all. Similarly, the light/illumination which is supposed to come on behind the heater controls doesn't work. I assume that might be a blown bulb but again, am guessing, really.

apologies for the long post, but hope the detail is useful. any advice on any of these problems would be gratefully received.

thanks again
