Help... I have a rattled sound in my car and i dont know where it is coming from been to many garages and they say its either the Exhaust Heatshield which is loose or a heat sheild in the engine bay which is loose... hoping one of you guys can tell me... everytime i drive off or rev it to 2500rpm the rattles begin and it gets loud when the engine is Hot... can anyone tell me what to do or how to resolve the problem if its the Exhaust ok thats fine because im getting a RS Greddy Exhaust pipe fitted next month. if its something in the engine bay is it D.I.Y...

Heat shield rattle is a common thing..many simply get rid of them.

But you need to get in or get under and physically check them out..they can be refixed using penny washers etc..depends how much corrosion they have suffered.?

A heat shield removed from under the car will make virtually nil difference, but if it's in the engine bay it could cause a fair amount of additional heat. As most engine tuners will tell you, more heat usually results in a loss of performance. But as we're talking about a small percentage on your road-going car (not a tuned-up track car), you may not even notice it. A rolling road set-up would probably show the difference though. Heat soak on a road car is at it's worst in urban scenarios like slow moving traffic. Basically the air intake temperatures will be a bit higher & that usually reduces peak power. Nothing to worry about unless the last BHP is important to you !
