I want to remove the tyres from my car they are nearly coming to the limit.

i don't want to put runflats on it just normal now.

dies anyone in the Midlands area know a place that will be able to remove the tyres for me so I can replace with normal tyres.

I work in Leeds occasionally can take it there if anyone knows a place there.

thank you

The tyre on your car is not a runflat tyre it is however designed to fit on a wheel fitted with the Bridgestone Support ring, this is large steel/rubber band fitted around the wheel inside the tyre, this is what the car runs on should you have a flat.

Removal of the the tyre requires a tyre machine compatible with the support ring or someone willing to use and angle grinder to cut the tyres and bands off, only then can you fit standard tyres back onto your wheels.

Note removing the runflat bands is classed as a modification to your car and your insurance company should be informed, if you don't you may find your insurance provider may refuse any claims you make.

Hi

Thank you for that. Ive just spoke to my insurance company and they're ok with it as long as it's the same size tyres.

It's just finding someone that can remove the originals. I've rang around few tyre places but no one is interested in removing them unfortunately.

If anyone does know of anyone then I would really appreciate that.

Thank you again for your reply

Does anyone know of any tyre fitters that will be willing to remove the runflats? I've tried everywhere but no joy! Getting desperate now as the front 2 have failed the MOT. Willing to travel if need be

Thanks in advance

Toyota dealers will have the gear to remove runflat tyres but I doubt if they'd get involved in removing the support rings. What you need is an independent tyre depot (not national chains) or even an independent garage. It's not a difficult job - it's just a case of cutting the tyre and support rings off with an angle grinder / bolt cutters. Might even be worth a quick chat with your local Toyota dealer service manager - they will have inevitably come across the issue previously and be able to point you somewhere. (Toyota use a particular type of runflat system - there are several others, so it's not a problem unique to Toyota)

Thank you for your reply. I've tried quite a lot of independent dealers but none of them want to do it. Unfortunately worst case scenario I've got a few days left for the retest I'll try and have a go myself but never attempted any sort of DIY stuff before.

Thanks again for your reply if there is anyone who does no of any independent dealer I would really appreciate it

Thanks

I had mine done at North East Tyres on the Silver Link roundabout Newcastle. It's a fair old drive up but I can recommend the service they offer. Total price was around £600 that included removal of the runflats and new tyres all round, valves and nitrogen filled.

Think I might have to get up there if I can't find anything nearer, did u manage to keep TPMS system working

Yes, TPMS worked no problem they didn't touch the sensors. I got the wheels powder coated a few weeks after the run flats rings removal and they took the sensors out completely, these were refitted and the only issue was they hadn't properly tightened one of them down sufficiently but after it was nipped up no more problems. Fuel economy and ride were greatly improved.

That's fantastic thank you very much. I'll see if I have any joy of someone local if not will see if I can negotiate a deal with the company you mentioned.

Thanks again

North East Tyres also have branches in Knaresbrough and Middlesbrough - both an hour or so closer than Silver Link if you're coming from the South (assuming of course they could do the work). Hopefully, however, someone will be able to identify an outfit closer to home.

That's brilliant thanks again. Will be fantastic if it was closer hopefully someone might be able to help for last resort I will have to travel up North.

There is a guy on eBay who has the alloy wheels without tyres on, 2 spare tyres and 4 bands but his not willing to sell them separately plus his allows don't have the valves either. Have tried a few breakers but they only have 17" alloys but I'd really like to keep 18" wheels on

Newcastle is only 40 minutes further up the A19 than Middlesbrough. I think you're more than likely better taking a day off and biting the bullet. Save all the messing about with eBay.. A real conundrum.

Hi, Where is this Brum. Please let me know the place to get this BSR tyre replacement done. I too have similar issue with RAV4 T180 tyres at Swindon.

Oh the garage i had it done out closed down after lockdown unfortunately. However most garages can do it they just cut the tyre off and then use an angle grinder to cut the run flat part off. In fact I know someone who did at home themselves too and then had tyres fitted there is a video on YouTube if I recall correctly too
