Hi !

Soon the timing belt changing time is coming. Do i have to change also the water pump at the same time ? It is now 300.000 km, and i think the water pump has not been changed so far :)

I will change at the same time tensioner, idler and v-ripped drive belt. Any other suggestions ??

Thank you very much!

if its the 1cd-ftv engine;

There is a hydraulic tensioner (piston type) tensioner roller and idler, I have attached a diagram showing.

Yes I would recommend changing the water pump. especially if you see any dried coolant when you are there.

Hi ,

Thank you very much for the diagram, that is very clear. I am planning to take a look under the hood this weekend, i will go around the belt and check the conditions and water pump as well.

I will be checking whether can i change it myself or not ! Do you have any documentation that would be helpful ?

Thank you very much.

Sam

before you tackle the job you will need pulley remover as its needed to make life easier on the crankshaft pulley and fuel pump pulley(if your changing the pump)

and the bolts on these you will have to lock the pulleys somehow or use a impact/air gun.

Hi Sam,

Yes, get the waterpump changed as well. I went through a similar scenario a while back.

What you need to take into consideration is that if your waterpump fails later on, then you will have to pay for the labour costs all over again.

So you'd rather pay the labour cost once and get the waterpump and the belt replaced at the same time.

Bit like killing 2 birds with 1 stone really...
