New Smart Keyfob

Hi, apologies if this has been asked before but I have searched and can not find anything.

I am picking up a 09 Auris next week.

It only comes with one Key Fob. It is the keyless start system type.

What the best way to get a second key fob and also a old school manual key?

I know most reliable would be a Toyota dealership but is this expensive?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Danny - welcome to Toyota Owners Club

From a Toyota dealer think you're looking in the region of £150-200 for a replacement including programming.

An auto locksmith can probably provide a manual key for less - not sure about the smart keyfob.

Are you buying from a dealer - if so, why does it only come with one keyfob? If the dealer won't provide a second keyfob, why not explore whether they could get one for the car as they may be able to get some discount, and it would work out cheaper. May be worth some negotiating.

if it's the keyless system (& if it's the same as an Avensis) it should have come with 2 fobs. The only thing that a mechanical key can do is lock/unlock the door so there is no need for that to have a transponder & it therefore should be pretty cheap to get a standalone key cut.

The keyless fob I suspect might have to come from a Toyota dealer & I wouldn't be surprised if it runs £200+ - if you have the reg./VIN no. PM Partsking & ask for a quote. If it is the same fob as an Avensis then there is a manual key blade stowed in it.

For Parts King, go to the Community page, scroll down to Sponsor's Corner and Lindop Toyota. You can then send him a personal message (pm).

Thanks for the info, No im not buying from a dealer from a independent. I will check when I pick it up if it has the manual key with the fob.

If the Fob is the only way to start it I think I will have to get a second Fob as a back up.

Even if the seller is an independent dealer, the above still applies - they may get some sort of trade discount.

Sorry about the late reply, In the end it came with two keys so happy days. I was concerned as to how you would get in the car and start it if the Battery dies on the fob but there is a mechanical key and the car can be started even if the fob Battery is dead so all is good. Thank you for the info and quick replys.

Ps really like the Auris very smooth practical and easy to drive. Just getting used to how light the steering is especially when going slow. It feels like if there is any kind of camber in the road the car wants to follow it eagerly.
