Access To Starter Motor

Is access to the starter motor on the petrol Aygos best done from underneath? Is it possible to get top it from the top?

The wife's Aygo is having starting problems - the starter motor is clearly spinning but doesn't seem to be engaging with the ring gear. It might just be muck preventing it doing so but I can't check until I've got it off.

I have a large barn to work in but I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for scrabbling around on the floor unless I really have to. :)

Starter motor is down the back of the engine, so would say is all from the back and out from underneath :)

Ah well, down we go then :)

Hopefully it'll just be crud preventing the bendix from spinning out but.....

You could just try giving the bendix a clean with brake/carb cleaner......could work .

You have provably sorted this by now but I came across the torque settings for the starter motor bolts its important that they are done up correctly.

The number is 37 Nm

Hope this does mean you have to go back underneath.
