Hi I am pondering as to whether to take out the extended warranty offer !!!!! Do any of you have any views on it !!, cost is £ 516 ( for a low mileage user, under 10k a year ) Take off the cost of home recovery, £66 . Is it worth the £450 for the year. please give me your opinions as to what I should do.

is that for 1 year or 2 years? It usually works out cheaper per year to take the 2 year. Assuming that it is Toyota's own extended warranty it's about as good as you will get in terms of cover.

It's really up to you to weigh up the cost of the warranty versus the cost of any potential issues & decide. Obviously your long term plans for changing/keepingthe car also come into it.

In the Avensis the petrol engine/CVT combo is very reliable.

You, hopefully, will never need it, but it does provide peace of mind should a major repair occur.

Last two times we had extended warranties were on two Mazdas:

We had a Premacy MPV from new and extended the warranty by 1 year on that when the 3 year new car warranty expired - cost £450 including Mazda Roadside Assistance. Approx 8 months into the extended warranty the airbag light came on and we had to have the drivers airbag replaced - cost for the airbag module was £750 excluding fitting.

After the Premacy, we had a Mazda 2 and extended the warranty by two years, when it was three years old - cost was £400 including two years Mazda Roadside Assistance. The 2 required no repairs under warranty for the remaining time we had it - but the extended warranty did provide peace of mind.
