Today a message came on my car screen 'Inoperable handbrake' what are the reasons for this message?

Car is a 2010 2.2 Toyota avensis diesel with a switch break.

probably the actuator. Take it to a dealer & hope that you are still in warranty or get goodwill from Toyota for the fix.
