Hey,

Do you just leave it connected all the time? Will the elm327 allow you to use the techstream and make setting changes to the ecu etc?

Dont use it for changing any parameters.

I just use the free app torque

Basically just for reading and clearing codes.

And the odd bit of watching live sensor data to see whats happening.when looking to buy a car for friends and family and see if there are any pending faults not yet triggering a mil

Connectivity may vary with devices as there are hundreds of different copies out there.

Was transit connects i had no joy connecting to but every other make i have been successful

You get public domain software with these and the different programs may affect what you are able to connect to as well

As mine works with renault

It also gives you estimated horsepower and torque figures from the wheels, performance figures 0-60 etc, fuel consumption, emmisions etc, etc with the ability to log all the data and mail it to webserver of email address.

The performance figures seem to be fairly accurate now although i wish i was getting the 52 mpg average it has calculated so far lol

Like Rob, I use an ELM327 and Torque on my Nexus 5 phone. Works really great. I have left the ELM327 plugged in all the time for over 3 months now on my Yaris Hybrid and it has had no detrimental effect on the 12V Battery over that period. Has to be said that I have one of the latest versions that auto powers off to a standby condition when the vehicle is switched off.

In regard to Techstream, I also have a laptop set up just for the car and I have tried the ELM327 over bluetooth for that also but it is slow and less than reliable so instead I use a direct MINI-VCI (J2534) USB cable for that now which is fast and reliable.
