Gt4 Gearbox Problem

I own a 91 celica gt4 and I've started having problems with the gearbox.

Every gear is fine except third, it selects OK but pops out of gear as soon as I take my foot off the clutch, no grinding or crunching on selection or when it pops out. It will stay in third if gear selected a bit more forcefully than usual. Any ideas what the problem may be?

I've been told it may be the selector fork and would cost about £1000 to fix, gearbox out and strip
