Could it be a clogged dpf?

I'm a novice with cars so best to wait for a reply from someone with more knowledge.

There was a thread on this sub forum a while ago with a similar sounding issue, got a car from an auction. find it and have a read through. Poss dpf issue as mentioned. Try disconnecting the dpf and see if the smoke goes away as a process of elimination?
