Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum and have very little mechanical knowledge! My 2009 iQ2 has become a little sluggish lately. I was told egr cleaner could help and I have done this and she seems a little more sprightly. A neighbour has now told be that he swears by BG44k Fuel System Cleaner. Just wanted to ask would this be ok to use in the iQ? Any advice appreciated

Hi Lisa

I have just finished a bottle of Redex fuel system and injector cleaner and it has made a difference. Car seems a bit more lively now and the engine seems a bit smoother. Certainly hasn't done any harm anyway.

The 1.0 iQ engines did have an issue with the EGR valve and the later models were changed slightly to help the problem. If you have the earlier version there are plenty of posts here about people trying to get replacements but cleaning it and even replacing the valve with a new one of the original design may be worth considering.

Sure someone will be along soon to tell you more about the EGR's, I'm not sure my self as I have the 1.33 model and they don't seem so affected.

Craig.

I bought my Toyota IQ yesterday and have but 3 quarters of a can of BG44k in it already. I decided to do it after the posts by Bob Kneale about it being good for maintaining your engine every now and again.

The reason I didn't put the full can in is because the IQ has such a small fuel tank and the BG44k can is designed for all sizes of cars, usually with bigger tanks.

Will report back after the tank is depleted letting you know of my results.

It was never a recall but toyota hava a bulletin about it i had mine replaced but others have been quoted £700-£900. Even though mine now has the new version it started to become sluggish again. I did 4 full tank treatments with Redex costing £8.00 and it completely transformed my iQ. The EGR issue causes "soot" to build up in a small aperture in the inlet manifold. Personally i would give it a try with a variety of cleaners. The EGR symptom was at low revs. For instance when pulling onto a round a bout it would hesitate and be very dangerous

I have finished my tank of fuel containing the BG44k and all seems to be well, the engine ticks over and runs nicely.

I'm not sure if the EGR has been sorted in mine yet but I'm going to take it to my uncle (a mechanic) and have him check for me. If not ill try and get it fixed under the 12 month warranty I got when I purchased the car.

Thanks for all the info.

Thanks Guys,

Just put the BG44K in and give the car a good run - fingers crossed!

The longer the BG44 stays in the tank the better chance it has to work
