Auris Heating

I'm looking for some advice. I bought an 07 auris last august and realise the heating wasn't working. I brought it back to the garage and they 'fixed' it. Since then, it has been blowing luke warm air but recently it's just gone cold. I got a mechanic to check it and he says it's the heater box and that it's expensive so see can I bring it back to them. Anyone know is this a big expensive job?

Thanks

I think its a dashboard out thing would have to look at mine to be sure

Most cars are dash out for the heater matrix, when me and a mate did a track car, we did a heater matrix bypass and it was buried beneath the whole front dash. It's more than likely going to be the same.

Only cars I've not had to do a dash out are stripped out race cars and older cars from the 80s

Won't be the matrix, unless the pipes into it are blocked, but that would affect the entire engine cooling system. Conversely, a cooling system full of air, or under pressure could cause a cold heater output.

Is it climate control or standard twist knobs for the heater?

Standard twist knobs. The mechanic who looked at it for me said the heat is coming through from the engine but just not distributing out in the car

Could be a blocked pipe do you have any leaks or wet carpet or anything

if the heat is at the pipes on the firewall (engine side) but not hot in the air coming out you could have a knob failure ( no pun intended ) normally when the matrix goes there is a leak ...

Do you hear some cracking like a grasshopper. If you do then look for motors that are controlling the cold/hot air mixture.
