Hey people's of the interwebs. I am thinking (as the title says) of refurbing and repainting my alloys, i want to do them a different colour, but don't want to pay for new wheels (poor uni student and all that.....) the colours I'm thinking of are:

Gloss black

Gloss black with red spokes

Gloss black with red inside spokes

Silver with black spokes

Silver with black inside spokes

What do people think? The car is tyrol silver, if it was black I'd go straight for red and black, but not sure as of the colour. Your advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Need to see the wheels first to be able to tell.

You could have at least masked off the tyre lol

I did at first. But tape doesn't really stick to rubber xD

If memory serves back in my youth when I did this kind of thing I rubbed a soap bar around the tyre, the paint doesn't stick to soap.

Another idea is to get a piece of cardboard, cut a circle in it and that becomes a shield for the tyre.

I'll try this to help tomorrow when I actually paint them. See what happens xD

Or duct tape will stick on to clean(ish) rubber

Black isn't really nice on rims. It doesn't make them to stand out. How about some blue or turquoise? You can go for that theme by painting some other bits with that color aswell, for example door handles, mirror covers and antenna or whatever you like :) Would look nice on silver!

However he has quite big profile tyres and depending how much sparkle is in the paint they can stand out pretty well with a high power gloss finish .... The 200sx round the corner has his rims black but in the sun the sparkle on them is insane Thu tho his whole car is covered in camoflauge and is a used show car car ... But each to their own I thought the days of mad paint rims was gone tbh

Black rims is even older thing than bright ones I guess. Everyone had them couple of seasons ago. Now not so many of them anymore. But hey this is Finland so it's hard to say. When something is cool in US or Europe, you'll see it here after one year first time :D

Finished, probably should have taken longer, but don't have the time. When I do I'll do more to them like detailing.

Excellent job... Where did you get the paint? .... Just plain Halfords stuff or specialist spray cans...?

It was the alloy wheel paint from Halfords, and I used their bodyshop primer and the heavy duty lacquer it's had 2 coats of the above and looks pretty good now, obviously just try not to drive the car between the primer and paint coat if possible (I did this and it did some funny things, I assume from the heat of the brakes)
