Advice Wanted: Aygo Water Leaks, Condensation & Electrical Faults

Hi all, i'm new to the forum & am hoping to share my recent experience with the above to see how it compares to others & if anyone else has had anything similar.

A few months ago, i noticed that my Aygo 2009 Platinum had bad condensation on all the windows which froze on cold nights and water was settling in the footwells at the back seats. I tried to remedy this with towels, opening windows when driving etc etc. But it was getting worse.

One evening the horn started sounding constantly for no reason until it was disconnected from the Battery. I took car to local Toyota garage who advised that the seals were knackered & would be covered by an extended warranty plus the spiral cable needed to be replaced. This didnt stop the horn from sounding when it was reconnected to the Battery so they advised that some electrical wiring under the dash would need replacing due to corrosion but it was in NO WAY related to the water leaks. I foolishly agreed to this & when i came to pay the bill, the invoice stated a repair rather than replacing the wiring for the charge of £360 incl the spiral cable & diagnostics test, eeek!

Now less than 2 months later i noticed the front windscreen had been covered in condensation more despite the improving weather & the power steering was heavy. Now when i turn the keys without starting the engine, the oil, Battery, STOP & engine malfunction lights are on & dont go away. I have been advised that it is another electrical fault by a mechanic friend & not to drive the car unless it is to the Toyota garage which cannot fit me in for over a week due to the time of year (new regs). Does anyone think this is related to the previous water leaks & what should i expect to hear when it goes into the garage?

Any advice good or bad would be much appreciated & thanks for taking the time to read this

I feel this has something to do with the water leaks at the front windscreen area, get back on to your dealer and put a little more pressure on him or her to get your car repaired after all you have paid for it. Do this in the main office they will " love " for that. I have read this problem before haven't I ???

When you turn on the ignition the lights you mention will come on so long as they go out when the car is started then they are operating correctly:

The oil light wont go out until there is oil pressure in the engine which cant happen until it cranks then starts

The Battery light wont go out until the alternator provides a charge to the Battery which cant happen until the engine is started

The engine management light wont go out until it can complete its startup checks which needs the engine running

The STOP light needs the engine management to the above.

If the lights stay on after starting the car then this indicates a fault that needs attention

The fuse box on the Aygo is inside the speedo housing, so would be logical that a water leak from the windscreen could well cause your electrical problems.

As suggested above ....go back to the dealer and be firm but no rude......leave being rude if there is a next time !
