Hi - I have a 2008 Toyota Auris Spirit Diesel, lately on start up I have been getting blue smoke on start up and it runs a bit lumpy for a few seconds, after that it runs perfectly all day, but will do it again if it stands till cold. I have been advised to change the glow plugs, and suggestions gratefully received

It could relate to a TSB (technical service bulletin) requiring an ecu reprogramme and/or a new SCV valve to cure cold start issue. I don't have the details to hand but a search on this forum should yield the results.

Blue smoke - oil.

Black smoke - excess fuel

Oil used is fully synthetic 5 -30, It has been using oil just recently. 08 vehicle 85,000 miles, I have been working close to home for the past 6 months, so it has been doing a lot of short trips, but I try to make sure it is at least at normal temperature before switching off.

I wonder if your seeping oil into the chamber from a gasket starting to go or turbo oil seal maybe ... How is the oil level ( how often are you topping it up and with how much are you topping it up with )
