Ways To Improve My T Spirit

Hi all

Fancied changing the avensis (08 petrol T Spirit) for something smaller with plenty of legroom. Wanted to stick with Toyota as the Mrs and I have had them for years without any fuss. Anyway I'm being offered stupid values for my car so thought I'd keep it and spend the money improving it (budgeted 2grand) plus my trade in to get a different car.

My t spirit has 80,000 on the clock....so any ideas on how to improve it etc?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah j probably better off with it dealers give you silly money but sell your car for thousands!! I'd tidy the car up mechanical and body.also interior likes of maybe dvd player/screens..New alloys always looks good.

Thanks Frankie, I did wonder if you could replace/ upgrade the sat nav/ stereo unit with something newer. Apart from that it's spotless really. Might get rid of the Toyota wind deflectors though....I just can't get on with them. I wonder if there's any mods for the headlights...they've always been pretty poor on the avensis' I've owned.

Yeah headlights are like candles!I guess the sat nav unit could be upgraded.you can get HID kit for it but around m.o.t time you need to take them out again.is the wind deflectors the stick on ones or the ones the go into the door/windows frame?.what colour is your car?

you can upgrade the head unit/sat nav.

You can replace the bulbs in the headlights with uprated ones like Philips X-tremeVision or Osram Nightbreaker Plus.

You can lower/stiffen the suspension, change alloys/tyres etc.

All depends what you feel that you are missing & whether you think the mods are worth the cost.

Thank you all for the suggestions, one reason I'm erring on the side of keeping is because I find it comfortable to drive (especially long journeys) so suspension upgrades aren't a top priority. I will certainly upgrade the headlamp bulbs to one of those recommended.

Am I right in thinking its a TNS 700 unit in a 2008 t spirit, if so does anyone know what I can upgrade it to, or is it a case of speaking to Mr T? I know upgrade discs are expensive but I hate having things stuck on the windscreen.

Thanks for the replies so far peeps.

Just thought I would share something I have a hid conversion kit on my avensis and it hasn't failed mot, my previous car another avensis also had a hid conversion kit on for years and never failed.

Once you have had them you can't go back to standard they make you feel like your blind.

you would probably have to upgrade to a 3rd party head unit/satnav as even if later Toyota units are compatible the cost from Mr T for a unit would probably be horrendous (& you would still have expensive map upgrades).

if your car has headlight washers & adjustment then you could legally fit an HID kit. (my T27 has them - certainly better than the T25 with standard bulbs but I'm not sure that they are actually any better than my T25 with upgraded bulbs)

Just my tuppence, but...

If you've alreay planted the seed in your head about changing your car - then improving it a little won't change the desire for a new/different car.

You say you're getting low trade in prices - how about selling it privately then buying a replacement privately too, thus saving a grand or more and still getting a new car?

Just out of cusiosity what prices are the dealers offering you?

Hi Alan I did think about selling and buying privately. I've got a dodgy right knee so on long journeys the cruise control is handy. Originally I wanted to downsize because I'm the only one in this large 2ltr car most of the time. Now I can do without the leather, electric seats but would prefer something equally as comfortable. Another factor is that we now have a dog so if I can't put the dog in the back then mucky paw prints wipe off the leather back seat (dog harnessed).

I did consider the auris t spirit as it has a smaller engine but still has climate and cruise control.

Dealers were offering 2800 trade in for mine which is what put me off selling, hence improving it.
