So my friend filled my car up with old gas (cap wasn't even on; maybe water got in?)

it won't start now.. i've tried turning quite a few times. It's a regular jerry can with about 75% full?

What can I do? Should I drain it? Siphon? If so, how?

please be clear since I dont have much knowledge about this

thanks

You need to give a little more info .

Was the car running ok before the gerry can ?

Or has the car been stored up for a while ?

Was it petrol or diesel in the can ? is the car a petrol or diesel engine ?

Assume there was no fuel in the tank and you have added about 15 ltrs of suspect fuel ?

If you know nothing about car fuel systems its too dangerous to mess around, best to call on one of those firms who offer an on site draining service, though as you have turned the engine over they will have to drain and bleed the whole fuel system not just the tank.

Expect your friend will be happy to pay the bill !

Have a look and read here and the 'important' note at the bottom of their page. http://www.halfordsautocentres.com/car-repairs/fuel-drain-misfuel

Yes it was running fine! Car hasn't been stored for a while. It was a petrol and its a petrol engine as well. There was some fuel in the tank (quarter of a tank).

Am I able to add water remover or fuel stabilizer or anything? or can I add more fresh gas by any chance?

Sorry about replying late!

If you are sure the non starting is due to the suspect petrol added, then as you have tried to start it ,( pumped the petrol up) would think a full draining of the petrol system is needed.

Not aware of any addative that will clean up a contaminated tank.

If you now have about half a tank full of petrol you really do not want to be draining that off yourself, one for the professionals; its a service any garage should offer, plenty of mobile services as well who will come out to you.

Damn, getting it done will be costly since I have to tow it (not aware of anyone who comes to my house and gets it done? I'm in Canada) as well as tow it back (no insurance atm).

What about siphon pump? Can I not just do that? Thanks.
