I would check in the gearbox area. Look at the speed sensor and reverse switch. It sounds like a coincidence they both failed at the same time.

Next I will check the 10A Gauge fuse located in the dash board fuse box. This fuse is used by lots of other items, so some of them could be effected.

If it happened to me, I would be down to my local breakers to obtain the components and see if that fixes the issue. I did this recently with my ABS ECU.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Konrad,

Really appreciate all your help mate...

So... I have confirmed the 10A gauge fuse is good. Also no other equipment is affected and the rest of the instrument cluster gauges work as expected. I replaced the speed sensor last week with a new one and reverse light switch. I also tried another instrument cluster from a breaker. Finally in desperation me and a friend went out with him jiggling the wires and connections whilst I maintained a constant speed. Still no movement from the speedo despite all these steps.

I'm now at a loss as what to do... Am thinking of taking to an independent specialist. There are none local to me, do you know of any. I don't mind traveling if necessary.

Thanks...

You need to check the continuity of the wires from the speed sensor to the cluster. To check for a break in the wire..

You need to check the connector end.

The Speed sensor should have 3 wires.

- Neg

+ postive

+ Pulse.

Remove the connector and check for power.

run a wire from your cluster to gearbox and check pulse / continuity

Have you checked the earthing to the gearbox?

The only two electrical connections to the gearbox are faulty?

Cmia is correct regarding checking of the electrical continuity.
