Rear Suspension

Has anyone experienced the rear suspension going into the 'High' mode (very high) of its own accord?? 4 days after towing a caravan and unhitching in the Lo mode everything appeared to be OK, reset the suspension to N mode and the car behaved as expected for 2 days. Then it suddenly went into H although the indicator on the dash was showing N. This continued for an hour or more then after stopping the vehicle and restarting after a couple of hours the indicator displayed H and I was able to reset the system to N.

Maybe I am doing something wrong when towing, don't know, but I do set the vehicle to Lo when hitching/unhitching and then revert to N for normal driving. Would be interested to hear if anyone has experienced similar problems and could give me any advice.

Cheers

Jeff

Just to update anyone who is interested. - I took the LC to our local garage for a diagnostic check to see if the problem could be identified. Unfortunately the result was negative, no fault apparent. Took the LC to Toyota for investigation, no fault found but could be the sensors or other bits and pieces starting to fail. The cost of replacement sensors etc. was a bit steep so I decided to 'bite the bullet' and ditch the air suspension and replace with shocks and springs. Contacted Pedders UK who were very helpful and had a kit available for the LC which was just the job for me. Suspension was duly replaced and now the car rides the bumps very well, less roll, more stable and no fear of the air suspension jacking up the rear end when least expected. Have towed the caravan for a few hundred miles now on the new springs and shocks, everything was just great, the car felt much better, can't put a figure on it, but I certainly felt an improvement when towing.

Hi Jeff,

What was the cost to replace the rear suspension and also how much to have it fitted.

Brian.

Hi Brian

Sorry for the delay in replying, cost of parts range from approx. £600 - £800 depending on the spec you want/need. My local garage did the job for £360.
