after a petrol tank heatshield for a 1.8 03 plate avensis.. can anyone help, would rather avoid the dealer

These rot out so little chance sourcing a good one. Dealers want silly money for what it is.

is it worth buying a new one, wasnt sure with the petrol tank being plastic..

Mine is beginning to crumble in places but there's enough left to stitch a piece of fashioned aluminium sheet using pop-rivets. Zero cost.

I'm guessing the heat shield is cheaper than the fuel tank so this should be a no brainer really.

Is there any chance of knocking one up from a thin piece of sheet steel? Doesn't have to be pretty.

Aluminium tape won't survive underneath the car so that is out.
