2002 Avensis Fog Light Dash Light

Brought the car for the nct, it failed, the mech said the fog lamp dash light didn't illuminate even though the fog light is working. Is this a huge job to sort? I thought as the switch for the fog light itself illuminated that there wasn't one in the dash display as I'd never seen one.

It is straight forward to change the bulbs.

The dash bulbs are not too difficult to change. Lower the steering column.

There are two screws in the upper part of the surround, remove these then tilt and pull the upper part first to release the lower clips.

The trick I use is to twist the surround top part towards you then bring the lower part of the surround up lift over the instruments to remove. It took me a few minutes to work that one out.

Then you will find 3 screws holding the instrument panel, 1 top centre, 2 lower at the ends.

Remove the screws and tilt the instrument towards you face down.

The bulbs are in bayonet holders.

Next to the headlamp bulb is the tiny bulb to be replaced - R286 capless 12v 1.2w.

Try not to touch the bulb directly. Use a clean tissue or wear clean rubber gloves.

I have had to change a few warning lights like the ABS, SRS, ECON and handbrake.

Thanks so much for the comprehensive reply!!

I managed to sort it using your instructions. Funny thing was there wasn't even one of the plastic bulb holders in that slot. I borrowed the one from the door open warning for now to get her past the test, I'll source a new part during the week.

Thanks again!
