Toyota Landcruiser Colorado Needs A New Fuel Pump

I am located in Grenada in the Eastern Caribbean. I have a Toyota Landcruiser Colorado 3.0 TDI, 1998 model with around 70K miles on the clock. It has been in the Caribbean since 2003. Recently it lost power on a hill and the engine cut out completely a few times. Then on restarting it made a very loud rattling sound. I parked up immediately.

The mechanic said it needs a new fuel pump. Is it best to get a genuine Toyota or would an after market pump be just as good in a 16 year old vehicle, which I am not planning on selling. Or should I get the existing pump stripped down and refurbished - they can do this in Trinidad but not Grenada.

Opinons on this welcome.

Hi Karen,

I am no expert but given your circumstances I would personally go for an aftermarket pump. Guess you will have had the car repaired by now, what pump did you fit??

Cheers

Jeff
