Blind Spots Around The Aygo

Had a near miss the other day, thought I'd checked my blind spot before moving over to another lane on a dual carriage way but then as I move over I get this sudden blaring of the horn from a fiesta driver whom I obviously didn't see. He then decided to make me do a sudden brake check by overtaking me and cutting in close which although I know what I did was wrong didn't give him the right to do that. Anyway, going to let it go but...

Now I'm wondering how I could make my blind spots more visible? My mirrors are positioned so I can see the rear quarters of the car. I wonder if those stick on blind spot mirrors may make a difference?

Well the proper lane change procedure involves checking your mirrors but also looking to the right out the window just to cover the blind spot.

I don't think it's possible for your wing mirrors to cover that bit without sacrificing rear vision.

Is it possible the Fiesta actually wasn't there when you checked? Given a) Their behaviour and b) It's a Fiesta, I wouldn't be surprised if they were driving like twits and jumped in there after you checked.

That's happened to me a few times where I've clearly signalled and started to move over when some prat has decided to force their way into the gap from the outer lane to try and undertake someone, no signals nothing, when I'm already half-way across, forcing me back out.

Um I was actually going back to the left but yeah, I was thinking that considering he had time to do all that angry blaring on the horn, I think it was more impatience on his part than him actually being so close I was nearly hitting him.

Somebody scared the **** out of me once joining the motorway when they speeded down the slip road and went straight out behind me. I'd checked my blind spot once and had my signal on, then he suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Blind spot is beyond atrocious, the B pillars and rear windows in the newer models block nearly everything ... accompany that with the tiniest mirrors possible and you have a recipe for disaster

Well mine is the first model so mirrors are a bit wider. I put a pair of summit blind spot mirrors on top of my bigger ones and they work really well. Basically if I see somebody in the small mirror then I know they're too close to pull out. Really handy considering I have to drive home in rush hour traffic once a week and it gets busy along one stretch of road where there is multiple lanes

I got tooted and braked checked for something similar. i was driving on a 70 mph road and the car in front was doing the grand speed of 30mph (everyone misses the speed limit change) so i checked the right hand lane and there was nothing in so i put on my indicator on and moved in the right hand lane to overtake this car and I heard someone holding the horn in behind me. the car behind decided to try to overtake me a the same time i decided to overtake the car in-front. we both entered the lane at the same time. so after i passed the car i was overtaking i pulled back into the left hand lane.

the car that blared there horn at me come flying past and pulled straight in front of me before stamping on there brakes then indicating to the side of the road while signalling for me to pull over. so instead of stamping on the brakes i pulled back into the right hand lane and drove past them.

sometimes its got nothing to do with blind spots just very impatient drivers. if thought they where going to brake check me i would have just matched speed with the car doing 30.

Some drivers are just a***holes

Do you think these better than the rectangular ones?

No these are the rectangular ones, summit do both types

looks like your mirrors are badly adjusted. If properly adjusted for rear view and lane change you should not be able to see the side of your car. That way you are focused on the blind spot. Read this.

My instructor said that but I found it very hard to judge relative position without some sort of reference point.

Currently I have my wing mirrors set so that there is a sliver of side so I can tell where my car is relative to others without having to Use The Force. It also helps when reverse parking :)

All wing mirrors have a convex outer area to broaden the view anyway, so it doesn't affect your field of view significantly.

my right hand wing mirror is positioned so I can see very little of my car and most of the road. Left hand mirror is positioned so I can see a bit more of the car but some of the road as well. Since having fitted these smaller blind spot mirrors, I've felt a lot more confident at changing lanes as I can see a lot better without having to turn my head over my shoulder, although I still turn my head to do a triple check like going onto the motorway.
