Toyota Regius 1997

Having sold a £30000 + swift motor home that was a two person, no belted seats in the back. I have yesterday bought an 8 belted seat old 3lt diesel Toyota for very little money off eBay. It is in remarkable condition for its age and as I drive an automatic car it is easier for me to drive.

I am considering various options to give me a family day out or over weekend for two camper.

I have no hand book or manual but ordered the translated £20 one off the net.

Mean time Im trying all the press buttons and lever to see what is what, sunroofs, curtains, swivel seats etc.

I was wondering if any one else had converted the regius and could post a photo to spread my options.

I may just remove the odd seat and put, in portable sink, hob, and potty cupboard, but leave double or twin bed seat layout,

My over night main requirements are, somewhere to brew up, have a wash. and go to toilet.

If I got really keen I may consider a high roof addition. I wonder if that's beyond diy?

I would be most interested to hear from owners of old regius as to what to expect from this my first Toyota

.Im off now to play with my new toy for a pensioner.

Further to my purchase.

Iv had fun trying to find out what all the controls buttons and levers do with some suprises and some iv yet to fathom.

First fault ,- Hand brake sticking on, After taking the back wheel off, nut as tight as ........., and wheel heavier than expected, decided it was a job for the garage, the joint where the cable divides was well greased and no obvious damage,

May get new rear pads and shoes fitted together with the cable if the garage cost is reasonable.

The sticking hand brake would release by putting the van in reverse and repeating the pull of the brake lever.

I would like to take out the rear three person seat to put in some camper stuff as it seems possible with clever design to keep five belted seats that make up into two single beds of near 6ft and get sink, hob, toilet and dressing/storage space.at the rear,

Question, what is the best way to remove the rear seat, is there an easy way, anyone done it?

Hello. The hand brake problem is not a problem. its made like that so when the hand brake is on you can drop it to the floor so you can turn the drivers seat around. Otherwise when the handbrake is on you could not turn the seat. To release lift up the hand brake tight holding the button in then release in one movement to the floor

You've replied to a five year old post - the poster has probably found a solution some time ago.

Hi Barry,

I didn't convert this myself, bought it privately, however, you may get some ideas from the photos. Good luck!

very interesting to read this. I've had a problem with my Hiace Regius campervan (1995) Jap import, since buying it privately already converted 18 months ago. I've had it in to local garage and a 'so called' campervan specialist, but neither were able to sort it. Basically, handbrake seizes when applied and only way to free is use a screwdriver and push down on release mechanism in the rubber boot housing the handbrake assembly. Annoyingly, I have literally just returned from garage where it has just failed it's MOT due to this so i am now on the look out for a complete handbrake assembly, (nothing to do with the cable, shoes or anything else). I will give your suggestion a go and see if that works.
