Air Con Posible Problem

hello all i am new to this forum can you tell me if this is normanl or i have a problem? i have a toyota corolla 1997 cd liftback 1.6 and when i turn on the air con the pump clutch gose click the rad fans come on, then a after a short time they all stop for about 10 seconds then the pump clutch gose click again and the rad fans come on again, then after about 10 - 15 seconds it shuts of again. is that normal? i had the gas topped up and it dose blow cold.
