Turbo Damage After Service

I collected my car after an intermediate service at a Toyota Service Centre and returned after 400 yards as there was a whistling noise that was not there before the service. After inspection I was lead to believe that, in the past, the rubber gasket on the turbo end of the air intake had been ingested and the vanes damaged. Does anyone suspect that this would be the case and it was just coincidence that the noise started immediately after the service or is it more likely that the hose was disturbed when inspecting the air filter and the gasket was ingested then? The car (Verso D4D T3) is clocking on in miles but serviced roughly every six months at Toyota and had the engine replaced which has now done 70,000 miles. I have forked out £70 for a replacement hose as you can't buy the rubber seal separately but am worrying that a replacement turbo will be the next disaster. I see on the forum that the swallowing of this gasket has occurred for other owners and would seem to be a another issue with the D4D engine. Does anybody think I would have any chance of getting the garage to admit it was their fault! No, I didn't think so!

As anticipated the service centre denied any responsibility. I have fitted the replacement hose and driven around 1000 miles since the service. The turbo still whistles under acceleration but it is not an unpleasant noise. The car is down a little on power but MPG is still good-around 50 measured brim to brim. Having seen the size of the rubber insert which is glued (or should be!) into the intake hose I would think the turbo would be totalled if fully ingested-surprisingly there was no sign of it when the mechanic showed me the damage using a dentists mirror-even pointing out finger marks suggesting that someone else had removed it.
