Passenger Airbag Warning Light On

Anyone had this problem or know how to solve? I have an airbag warning light permanently on and I'm told it is because of a sensor problem in the passenger seat. It seems the solution is to replace the seat which costs around £1,200 plus labour, but that seems rather extreme when it's a perfectly good leather seat and just a faulty sensor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks

Who has told you it is a faulty sensor?

The Toyota dealer said it was the sensor but to fix it would need a new seat.

Craig, it is the "SRS warning light" on the dashboard. The manual says it "indicates a malfunction in either the SRS airbag system, or the seatbelt pretensioner system". My dealer said that it's the airbag system and he thinks the connector, and the only way to resolve is to change the whole seat.

Hmmm, That's a pain then.

Surely the sensor is a separate item that can be changed, I'll check the manual for you when I can....

Yeah exactly. Seems crazy to change the whole seat when it's a connector/sensor - not least the fact the seat costs nearly £1,200. My car's an IQ3 from Aug 2009 - so nearly 6 years old and do I really want to spend that sort of money?

Thanks for your help Craig, much appreciated!

Hello

Sorry for my english

Very often, warning light on the dasboard about airbag, are coming from a problem of the connexion under the seat.

Test the plug, and with a soldering iron remove the plug. Usely it's works. Be careful, if you have seats with heating to look at the good plug. You can use also special spray inside the plug to clean the contacts.

Hi Christian

Thanks for your response. That is exactly what my dealer said was the problem - the connection under the seat. But his solution was to buy a whole new seat, which just seems rather over the top to me. I don't have any heated seats, but not sure about removing the plug myself .....

I too have an airbag alarm. Because i have Techstream software i have located it to the driver side squib. But i guess its the connector under the seat because i have in the past removed the seat to cover it in leather. I can reset the alarm but it comes back acouple of days later. Will try clamping tbe socket together to see if it helps

The scuib is embedded in tbe side of the seat so looks like the seat would be partially destroyed if removed.
