Considering New Avensis

I am (seriously) considering the new Avensis, as our new family car, but have been unable to clarify a few things:

1. Does it have space for a spare wheel?

2. Does the parking sensors integrate into the screen(s), or is it sound only?

3. Does it come with Adaptive cruise control?

Is there anyone out there, with the answer to these questions ? ... speculations are welcome :D

welcome to the forum :)

seeing as you say that speculation is welcome ;) but this is based on knowledge of existing UK car specs & likely new UK specs. - these may well vary for other countries.

1) I would say, yes, as the existing car does

2) This may be grade dependent - the existing car has a reversing camera for most grade so when reversing you get both a picture & sound if rear sensors fitted. To get a picture with front sensors they would also have to add a front camera.

3) yes http://blog.toyota.co.uk/toyota-car-safety-monitoring-systems#adaptiveCruiseControl

One of our members was going to the Norwegian launch yesterday if I remember correctly so maybe he can help.

did try the 1.8 active style yesterday but was a bit in a hurry so it was a quick drive and no peeking on stuff.

was back today and agreed on a two day tryout over the weekend. need a bit more time to check out the car.

the little drive i had yesterday gave me a positive feeling about this Avensis but it's a shame they only got the 1.8 aut active style for the test drive. the car i am most interested in is the diesel Premium models.

2 . the car i tryed did not have parking sensors, only the backup camera.

i will make a post when i had it a couple of days for testing Next week.

sorry for the bad English.....

the car i am trying (active style aut. 1.8) does not have adaptive cruise Control and as far as i can see no models got it,just the "normal" cruise Control.

shoud be the same in the uk or?

heidfirst posted a link to a old article (1 year old) something must have made them skip it cause it seme like it was the plan to have it on this model too.

I have been talking to the dealer and trying it out, and thought I would list my findings on cases others had the same questions

1. Yes, there is space for a full size spare.

2. Sound only - although it has a rear parking cam as well.

3. No adaptive cruise control. Toyota could not "have it ready" for launch, but the avensis will be available with adaptive cruise control next year. It cannot be mounted afterwards, so as the dealer told med "its a new car" if I want that upgrade next year :)

The car is a fine drive, tried out the 1.8 petrol. It doesn't have the quick acceleration as the turbo estates, but it is remarkable silent. I was worried about the screen as i've heard it would be slow to respond to input, but it seems quick and clear.

The only negatives I have so far is

- Only one cupholder in front (unless I haven't found them all)

- no rear air vents

- seat is quite high, and wheel have only limited adjustment possibilities (seat is very comfy though)

But the positives are numerous :D
