My Car Is Struggling To Start

Hi all,

I have a toyota rav4 diesel 2002 model and I am currently having start up issues. Sometimes the car takes several attempts to start between 1-5 attempts. It cranks over but just won't start. I have changed all the glow plugs and they are working correctly. Fuel filter and its housing has been changed. The fuel seems to be getting through to the engine. Not sure what else to check as the diagnostics isn't picking anything up. Someone mentioned about a crank shaft position sensor? Could this be the issue? Any ideas?

Cheers

Stuart

if you do not know what started off the problem, then have you checked the Battery?

I found in some instances, a tired one can turn the engine over for a long period but critically not fast enough for it to start up.

A drop in CCA of less than about 40% will not necessary show up in volt testing. Only a discharge test would show this

Check your injector seals. They leak and cause this. They also cause carbon deposits to build up on the engine oil pick up, eventually starving the engine of oil. Toyota modified the crush washers but didn't recall the cars.

Imminent engine failure ahead if not sorted quickly.
