Dashboard Light Dims

i have a Auris 2009 D4D problem with the dashboard light it dims when the main lights are switched on,I can not see any switch that is switch off, this has only happened in the last few week

If you have the instrument lighting on high, when the headlamps are switched on, the instrument lighting will dim. To the lower right of the speedometer is the 'display' button. To alter the brightness of the instrument lighting, turn the headlamps on, and press the display button until you achieve the level of brightness you desire - there are five levels of lighting, indicated by between one and five bars (the brighter the instrument lighting the more bars are displayed).
