Performance Upgrade And Turbo

I've read and searched many forums about adding more power/speed such as exhaust system, intake, headers, cams etc.

Currently my Celica has an aem intake system and an aftermarket back box installed. I want a bit more power but nothing too crazy. I'm already looking at full exhausts systems I can buy. With these minor upgrades is there any noticeable power gains? For example If side by side to another Celica 190, would there be much difference? (if both drivers were identical in terms of driving).

I would be interested in installing a Turbo but I wouldn't want it to be too crazy as I said. I heard if you run roughly 5-8 psi you wouldn't necessarily need to upgrade many other parts. Is this true? How much power gains could be expected from this?

It would be great if I had anywhere between 200-240bhp lol :D

Thanks, just checked them out. What they offer may be a little extreme for me. Turbo is a dream tbh. I'll most likely stick to the 'minor performance mods' unless I somehow have a spare £5k laying around lol

Good luck with the minor performance mods, as the 190 engine is highly tuned from the factory, exhaust won't give you much if any gains, you will need a full system with at least a 200cell sports cat to pass MOT. You could go decat if you know a MOT tester who will pass it for you.

Your AEM intake will more than likel be losing you HP, but nothing beats the sound in Lift.

Other than that, lightweight alternator and water pump pulley from MWR in the US, a lightweight flywheel, lightweight wheels and stripping the interior out, are the only cheap mods which will increase acceleration.

If you can put up with a engine management light then the best mod you can do for around £600-£800 is a set of stage 2 cams, gets rid of the dip in power before lift and increases mid range power.

Set of uprated roll bars and poly bushes and coilovers or springs to make the car handle better, and bigger brakes to brake later.

Nothing more you can do as the standard ECU can't be remapped. All the above will cost over £4k.

And the standard 190 engine will handle around 300BHP maybe a little more without upgrading internals, but that would be with a supercharger fitted, turbo seems to put a bit more stress on the engine as all the power comes in higher in the rev range rather than gradually with a supercharger.

That's one thing I don't really like about the Celica really. Only way to get any gains is either turbo or supercharger. Maybe I should look into getting a supercharger. But I know it will be very expensive and maybe not worth the investment for me personally
