Revised Ultra Low Emission Zone (ulez) For London 2020

Yesterday I was show a friend the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) due to start in London from September 2020.

I knew that petrol cars had to be Euro 4 and built from 2006 - some earlier cars that meet Euro 4 will also be exempt.

Diesels had to be Euro 5 and built from 2010 in the the original rules.

Now diesel car have to meet Euro 6 and be built from 2015. So if you recently bought a diesel car on the understanding it will be exempt from the ULEZ, this will be a shock!

This must be because of the diesel emissions that have come to notice recently.

I think Toyota will do well since more effort went into hybrid cars, and this change has played right into Toyota, Lexus, Honda BMW and any other company who has put effort into hybrid or electric cars. Also petrol engine efficiency is still improving.

Not many of us drive into Central London that much, now where to park and expensive, roads congested or closed.

A lot of the private taxi firms use Toyota Prius so that they will not be affected by the ULEZ.

As a private car owner, my current car does not meet the ULEZ, but my target cars will all be petrol and all will meet the ULEZ unless TfL change the rules for the petrol emissions.

When there has been a bus and/or taxi strike the emissions monitored dropped quite a bit! TfL did not publish figures but other authorises did. Everyone know that mostly diesels are used in the congestion/ULEZ zone and they are TfL vehicles!

So the best thing is don't change your vehicle, unless you are going into the ULEZ regularly. If you intend to change your vehicle go for petrol or hybrid or wait until the rules have stabilized.

Everyone else won't really care.
