Hi, I've an 1997 automatic Avensis. I'm losing sound through the Speakers and am planning on taking out the stereo to check the wiring etc.

Problem is I've no instructions on how to do this! Can anyone help at all?

Thanks.

Pull the false wood surround from the bottom where the ashtray is towards you. Tilt is up as you pull and rest it on the top of the dashboard if you do not want to disconnect the harzard warning, rear heated window switches and alarm indicator.

Then either side of the stereo are two pairs of philips screws. Remove these and the stereo can be romved.

The Sony is connected via a multi plug.

If the Speakers are the originals I would suggest changing them. That's what I did and the sound was a great improvement.

I did a post on this using 9mm mdf and JBL Speakers.

Will link that later if you are interested.

If your test confirm the Sony has a fault, you can replace the head unit using the brackets from the Sony. Also purchase a harness lead which converts Toyota to ISO. The lead is PC2-17-4. I use the same for my bluetooth handsfree system. Then you can fit any audio unit without cutting any wires.

Lets hope it is something simple.
