Rear Windscreen Wiper

I have an 05 Avensis T Sprit which I am more than happy with, having got used to the slightly bumpy ride and noise from the low-profile tyres.

But, the one thing that really niggles me is the stupid rear windscreen wiper that, wipes the very bottom third or so of the rear screen which is just about useful for reading the number plate of the car behind.

It happens the blade on my rear screen wiper is split and needs replacing.

The arm and blade fitted to mine is the Aero type, I have noticed that later models (07 and 08 plate) are fitted with a "conventional" arm and blade (front screen type). Oddly, my local Toyota dealer can offer no information about this.

I would like to fit the conventional type but, finding one seems to make hens teeth more common by comparision. I also think the blade could usefully be four inches longer (two inches each end) and still work without fouling the motor boss mechanisum or overlapping the bottom right corner of the screen, thereby creating a bigger wiped area.

It is even more annoying as my other 52 plate Avensis is fitted with a conventional arm and a blade that reaches the top of the screen, although the motor boss is fitted in a different place.

Anybody any ideas about 1) an Aero arm with a longer blade? 2) a conventional arm with a longer blade? Or any third party direct replacement for the fitted arm/blade?

Finally, I understand that the arm can be very fragile when being removed from the motor boss.

I think they changed to the steel arm with the standard fitment at around 2006- this just uses a standard 16" wiper, if you do decide to change to this one I think you will get away with the 18" wiper, they are steel arms for sale on eBay. I was going to do down this route but it was cheaper to get a replacement blade for mine.

the one your referring too is the plastic arm, you can get one made by denso from eurocarparts.com if you type in your reg, he Bosch part number is H309(cost me £5.05) and the Denso is drb-030. there will be a longer plastic wiper but I do not have the part number.

to remove with ease try wd40 and a wiper arm puller which can bought of eBay too circa £5
